Humongous Fry-up

Dinner tonight was, most unusually for us, a huge fry-up worthy of a greasy spoon in the English countryside. I normally try to cook healthy food for dinner, but sometimes this doesn't happen, either because we fancy a change or because I'm just too tired for anything after work. The latter generally leads to pasta bake and the former to such dinners as tonight. In a pan-rotating frenzy that reminded me of the old days when we had a kitchen with only two hubs, I fried up a duck egg omelette filled with a generous helping of vegetables and grated mozzarella, a goose egg over easy, a big portion of mushrooms and, for a bit of an American touch, fried potatoes. We also had a grilled tomato each and for Lofty I made some grilled sausages and bacon. Finally, to round it all off, there was a can of Heinz baked beans.
After all that, we are more than happy to return to a lighter diet. Our cravings for greasy animal products were more than satisfied and I can't complain about the taste either. The only disappointment were the eggs. I don't know if I did something wrong or if it was the fact that they'd been hyped up too much, but they were dry and relatively tasteless. But I think that's not so much a property of the eggs themselves, but rather due to the fact that they were just plain overdone. I'd been told that duck eggs have to be cooked really well to avoid salmonella. So, just to be on the safe side, I fried the omelette for a good 5 minutes on each side; definitely too much to keep it nice and moist. That's not a big deal though. I'll just have to stick to chicken omelettes in the future. Or learn to cook duck eggs properly.
